Tamil (Thamizh) is the oldest of the South Indian family of languages and the only classical language still in use in its ancient form.
The earliest written record is Thamizh Brahmi inscriptions dated to 3rd century BCE, suggesting the language could have been well developed in pre-historic times.
A presentation delivered by Perth North Tamil School volunteers on key features of the Tamil language, culture and art forms is available here
Our Tamil language classes are held every Sundays during school terms at the Ballajura Community College. All children come together to sing “Thamizh Vaazhthu” – Homage to the Tamil Language – at 2.45 pm at the commencement of sessions and classes finish at 5 pm.
