With the sun setting over the civic amphitheatre Trudi and I had a fabulous evening with the Tamil community celebrating Thai Pongal – a harvest festival giving thanks for the sun and the rain. It was just wonderful to see our amphitheatre alive with colour and movement and the sounds of the rich Tamil culture. Fantastic.

The importance of the event was underlined by the long list of distinguished guests who gave their time to celebrate and these included Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Terry Healy MLA, Bill Johnston MLA, Hon Kate Doust MLC and the Presidents of the Indian Society of WA (ISWA), the Chung Wah Association representing the Chinese community, the President of the Federation of Indian Associations of WA Inc… and many more. Even Sergeant Sam Lim the 2020 WA Police Officer of the Year was there.

A special thanks to Mr Sasi kumar Prabakaran the President of the Tamil Association of Western Australia Inc for inviting Trudi and I to this very special celebration. As Mayor I have never been prouder of our multicultural community. We will long remember it.

Perth North Tamil School will be at Altone Park Oval to celebrate Harmony Week on Saturday 20 March 2021 from 11 am to 4 pm. Support our cultural stall, food stall and performers and enjoy the day!
